New mural artwork is coming to M&M Marketplace and the City of Hillsboro wants community members to share their input on the final design.

Artists Addie Boswell and Li Tie were chosen by a community-based selection committee as finalists, with each submitting a design proposal for the new mural.

Share Your Feedback

Community members can review the design proposals and make their thoughts heard by participating in a survey available online through the City’s engagement platforms: Engage Hillsboro and the Spanish-language Conectate site.

There will also be opportunities to share input at summer events including:

  • La Strada dei Pastelli Chalk Art Festival on July 15–16
  • M&M Marketplace on July 22
  • Main Street Commons mural dedication on August 1
The survey will close at midnight on Tuesday, August 1. Feedback collected through the survey will guide the review and approval process for the new mural.

New M&M Marketplace Mural

A community-based committee representing vendors and owners of M&M Marketplace, the local arts community, and the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council selected Boswell and Tie as finalists for the project from Hillsboro’s Mural Roster.

The two artists visited M&M Marketplace and the mural site — the front façade of the marketplace facing Walnut Street — and received a tour from the owner, Jaime Miranda, before developing their designs.

After reviewing the feedback received through this survey, the community-based selection committee will determine which artist will receive the commission. The mural is planned to be complete by the end of summer 2023.

The mural at M&M Marketplace is the third project in a series of murals developed throughout Hillsboro’s Cultural Arts District, spanning Downtown from 10th Avenue (Calle Diez) to M&M Marketplace at SW Walnut Street.

Two murals were completed in fall 2022 along 10th Avenue, while a series of three murals will be dedicated at the Main Street Commons on Main Street & 2nd Avenue in August.

This latest mural will round out the investment of the first murals to be commissioned by the City of Hillsboro.
