The Washington County Fair is more than animals and carnival rides. For the third year, the Friends of the Hillsboro Library is hosting a 1000 square-foot book sale inside Wingspan Event Center during the Washington County Fair, July 21-30.

The Friends Book Sales are legendary, with a large following, but many Fairgoers are surprised to see a full-scale book store in the Event Center.

"The Friends at the Fair Book Sale made over $20,000 during the Washington County Fair last year, and we are hoping to raise even more money for the Hillsboro Public Library this year," said Barbara Wright, Friends of the Hillsboro Library Executive Director.

"My favorite part, after helping fund the Library projects we support, is meeting a very diverse set of shoppers, talking to them about our amazing library, and hopefully enticing them to come visit us — we are just right around the corner," Barbara said.

Volunteers!

A contributing factor to the success of the book sale is the volunteers.  "We couldn't do this event if it weren't for the volunteers," said Marcia Hale, Library Volunteer Engagement Coordinator. We especially welcome volunteers who can help with the somewhat heavy lifting of booth set-up. The Friends have a very short time to transform the space into their wonderland of discount books, so if you like being kept busy when you volunteer, this project should satisfy you!"

Marcia added, "In 2022, 44 volunteers assisted with set-up, sales, and packing everything up at the end. We're hoping to meet or exceed that number this year."
