Black History Month Inspires Book Donation to Little Free Libraries

University library

What better way to share some of the amazing stories of this year’s national Black History Month theme, “Black Resistance,” than with books? Across Washington County, employees from the City of Hillsboro, Washington County, and Clean Water Services spread the works of 12 authors into neighborhoods through Little Free Libraries, including:

  • Paul Robeson: No One Can Silence Me: The Life of the Legendary Artist and Activist
  • Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Boy
  • When We Say Black Lives Matter
  • The Story of Ruby Bridges: True Story of a Civil Rights Icon
  • Enough! 20+ Protesters Who Changed America
“I hope this effort sparks inspiration for others to take books off their shelves and put them into the hands of others, said Marcus Ford, Community Engagement Manager at the City of Hillsboro. There is no greater gift than knowledge. Little Free Libraries and Hillsboro’s Tiny Branches are one way we can continue to educate ourselves on the great achievements, trials, and stories of Black history in this country and beyond.” Additional Library Recommendations
