10 Hidden Gems to Help Students Succeed

Did you know the Library, in partnership with Washington County Cooperative Library Service, is filled with resources to support student success?

Here are 10 resources you need to know about. 

1. Student Library Card

Every Hillsboro School District student has a free account already set up. To access the Student Library Card, enter “HSD + your six-digit student ID.” For example: HSD123456. The password is the last four digits of your school ID.  Come in and ask a librarian about your card today.

2. BrainFuse HelpNow: Free Live Tutoring

Available daily from 1 to 10 pm for all grades. Subject help on math, science, social studies,  writing, and practice tests. Spanish-speaking tutors are available. 

3. Storytime & Programs

Storytime and programs designed for students are available all week long. 

4. Study Rooms

Free study and conference rooms are available to reserve. Brookwood Library has six study rooms with a four-person capacity, and two conference rooms with an eight-person capacity. Shute Park Library has one study room available to reserve with a capacity of 16. 

5. Encyclopedia Britannica

Explore the online encyclopedia from Encyclopedia Britannica with hundreds of thousands of articles, biographies, videos, images, and web sites. 

6. Culture Grams 

Get current facts and learn about the history and customs of countries around the world. This tool also includes information on the states and provinces. 

7. Gale in Context | Elementary | Middle School | High School

Gale in Context is a research database created for elementary students with picture-based navigation. The database includes research topics, eBooks, news, pictures, and videos. 

8. Nat Geo Kids

Read National Geographic Kids online for free! Full color electronic magazines, eBooks, videos, and pictures. 

9. Libby Reading App

Libby is the library reading app that lets you borrow thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, graphic novels, and comics for independent reading. 

10. Answerland

Chat online with an Oregon librarian during the day, or a librarian from around the world 24/7 through Answerland.
