Dear Forest Grove Community,
I am greatly disturbed from what I witnessed as I watched the video of the beating of Tyre Nichols. My thoughts and prayers are with the Nichols family. I understand that the actions displayed by the five Memphis Police officers impact all of us, to include all the staff members at the police department.
I want to ensure you that this department and your Forest Grove Police officers condemn the actions of those five officers, who have rightfully have been terminated and charged.Their actions are contrary to our duty and training to act with compassion and empathy. During these past few years, we have changed our training practices in order to align with your expectations that police officers will embrace and treat all our community members with dignity and fairness.
I can assure you that all of the Washington County law enforcement executives are united in condemning the actions of the five Memphis Officers. This link will take you to our unified press release.
I am hopeful that as a community we can process this tragedy together through continued community conversations and transparency. Later this week, we will be hosting a virtual listening session to collectively discuss and debrief this incident and its impact on our community and department.
I encourage you to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Chief Henry Reimann
