Invasive Emerald Ash Borer

Emerald ash borer (EAB) is a highly destructive invasive forest pest that has killed over 100 million ash trees in the eastern U.S. since its first detection near Detroit, Michigan, in 2002. This week, it was found right here in Forest Grove.

Before you report, note that emerald ash borer can easily be confused with many other common beetles and bugs.

Emerald ash borer:

Length ranges from 0.33 to 0.53 inches.

Head has a slight indent and bulging eyes. No long antennae.

Wing covers atop the body range from dingy to bright green and dull metallic. Underside is bright metallic. No spots, stripes, or grooved lines.

Body is slim and pointed.

When wings are open a red metallic body is visible.
