The Washington County Sheriff’s Office announced on March 9 that it is accepting applications for its Reserve Deputy Program, offering community members an opportunity to volunteer in law enforcement roles.

The program allows individuals who cannot commit to full-time service to contribute to public safety as sworn reserve deputies. These volunteers assist full-time patrol deputies by responding to emergency calls, providing aid, making arrests, and testifying in court. They also participate in special missions, panels, critical incident callouts, and various events.

Reserve deputies receive the same training and use the same equipment as their full-time counterparts. The Sheriff’s Office describes this as a unique chance for residents to give back to their community through volunteer service.

Applications are now open for the 2027 Reserve Academy. Interested individuals can find more information about the program and access the application materials through resources provided by the Sheriff’s Office.

The initiative aims to strengthen community involvement in local law enforcement while ensuring that reserve deputies are well-prepared for their responsibilities.
