Man Killed in Stalking Incident

9

On Sunday, December 11, 2022, at 7:53 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Sherwood police officers responded to a shooting on SW 207th Avenue and Pacific Highway near Sherwood.

The initial investigation revealed that 36-year-old Cody Buyas of Beavercreek was stalking an ex-girlfriend at her home. That woman’s family found Buyas outside of the home and confronted him, at which point Buyas displayed a weapon, and a family member fired multiple shots. Buyas was treated on the scene by law enforcement and EMS. Buyas was transported to a local trauma hospital but was pronounced deceased early this morning.

The family members remained on the scene and were cooperative with the investigation. No deputies or officers fired their weapons during this incident. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.

Detectives would like anyone who has recent information about Cody Buyas activities to call the Sheriff’s Office at 503-846-2700.

Members of the Violent Crimes Unit, Washington County Major Crimes Team, and the Forensic Science Unit all responded to the scene to aid in the investigation.

Members of the Violent Crimes Unit are called upon to investigate serious violent crimes such as homicides, suspicious deaths, adult sexual assaults, kidnappings, robberies, extortion, serious assaults, elder abuse, and missing persons.

The Washington County Major Crimes Team is comprised of detectives from law enforcement agencies throughout the county and is coordinated by the Washington County District Attorney's Office. The team responds to major crimes that occur in Washington County.

Forensic Analysts and Technicians with the Forensic Science Unit receive specialized training in identifying and collecting evidence at crime scenes throughout Washington County.
