Tigard Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Apr. 14.
Broadway Rose Theatre Company is one of Oregon’s premier musical theatre companies. They have been a member of the Tigard Chamber of Commerce for 24+ years. They have been producing professional musical theatre in the Tigard area since 1992 and has earned national recognition for its commitment to artistic excellence and new work development. The company presents a variety of mainstage productions throughout the year as well as summer children’s musicals, educational camps for children and teens, and a technical internship program for developing theatre professionals. They are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to keeping live theatre affordable and making its production accessible to all members of the community.
Starting with the Founders, Sharon and Dan have been heavily involved in the community. Sharon is the Producing Artistic Director at the Broadway Rose Theatre. She has served on boards for PHAME, The Westside Cultural Alliance and National Alliance of Musical Theatres. Dan is the Managing Director for the Broadway Rose Theatre. He has been involved in the community by serving on the Tigard Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for over 8 years, a Rotarian at the Tigard Noon Club since 2002, a knighted Royal Rosarian in 2015, and was named Tigard’s First Citizen in 2016. He currently sits on the boards of the Washington County Visitors Association, Tigard Downtown Alliance, the Portland Area Theatre Alliance, and the National Alliance for Musical Theatre. Dan is also active with the Tigard Tualatin School District and has directed Tualatin High School’s annual musical for over 18 years. He is also a proud member of the Actors Equity and SAG-AFTRA.
As an organization, the Broadway Rose Theatre has long served as a cultural hub for the community of Tigard, Oregon. Aside from their own productions and programs, the company also hosts both government and public gatherings, and goes above and beyond to offer their space to organizations in need of a place to meet. They have opened their doors to over 25 local nonprofit and organizations to use their space for meetings and events. For the Tigard Chamber of Commerce, the Broadway Rose team offers their space to members that cannot host Good Morning Tigard at their business location. They were also a huge part of allowing the Leadership Tigard program to continue through the pandemic by giving the class a safe space to gather for classes. The Tigard Chamber has also used the space for Leadership Tigard graduation, Holiday Happy Hour, special events and so much more.
Outside of letting organizations use their space, they have also made attending a theatre production accessible for everyone. They have accessible seating available in both the New Stage Auditorium and the Deb Fennell Auditorium. They offer assistive listening devices to patrons with hearing loss, and they will host one audio-described performances per run of a show by request. They also have an “Arts for All” initiative and offer $5 tickets to current Oregon Trail Card holders.
As you can see, Broadway Rose Theatre has made large positive impacts in our community. Please join us in congratulating Sharon, Dan, and the Broadway Rose Theatre staff on this well-deserved award. This award will be formally presented with other Tigard volunteer and business awards at Tigard’s 2022 Shining Stars Community Awards Gala Presented by Edge One Media, held on Friday, April 29 from 5:30-9 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Washington Square. Join us in celebrating the businesses and community members that help make Tigard a great place to work, play and live by reserving your seat on the Tigard Chamber website.
