The Scio High School softball team has started its new season with a perfect 6-0 record, according to a March 26 report. This comes despite the graduation of standout player Myleigh Cooper, who now plays at Cal Poly.
Scio’s continued success is significant as it demonstrates the team’s ability to maintain strong performance even after losing key players. The Loggers are currently ranked No. 3 in the OSAAtoday 3A preseason coaches poll and have shown that their offense remains powerful.
As a team, Scio is batting .444 with 11 home runs and has scored 86 runs so far this season, averaging about 14.3 runs per game—similar to last year’s state-leading average of 14.4 runs per game. Senior shortstop Macy Johnson leads with a .650 batting average, while senior catcher Cam Dalke is hitting .529 with four home runs and fourteen RBIs. Other contributors include junior first baseman Mahala Pyle (.667), senior third baseman Skylur Brown (.353), freshman infielder Zoe Ferebee (.417), junior center fielder Emma Thatcher (.450), and sophomore infielder Mae Ferrando (.353).
Dalke, Johnson, and Thatcher were among those named to last year’s all-state first team when Scio finished the season at 28-1 and won its first-ever state title after two years as runners-up. The Loggers have already posted decisive wins over ranked teams Kennedy (15-1), Glide (18-1), and Harrisburg (15-0). Dalke had an especially strong showing against Harrisburg by going three-for-three with two home runs and six RBIs.
Sophomore Gracie Ferguson has taken over pitching duties from Cooper, recording forty strikeouts in twenty-eight innings with an earned run average of 1.75 so far this year.
Looking ahead, Scio will complete its nonleague schedule this week at the Steve Garett Memorial Tournament in The Dalles before facing Tillamook, Cottage Grove, and Astoria.
